The Project

FROM 2003 TO 2029: EVERY STONE LAID HAS A NAME, A DATE AND A COST.

The science and technology park is currently under construction. Here are the ongoing works, the confirmed deadlines and the vision for the park once fully operational.

The plan, year by year

The future isn’t something you wait for. It’s something you build.

Establishment of GHT

Genova High Tech S.p.A. is established as the owner and implementing body of the Erzelli Science and Technology Park.

2003
Approval of the Plan

The City of Genoa approves the Urban Development Framework (SAU) for the science and technology park.

2007
Construction of technology infrastructure

GHT begins and completes the first phase of the hill’s infrastructure development, including the road network, underground utilities, hydrogeological stabilisation of the slopes and the first public car park. It also constructs Buildings A and B, providing 45,000 square metres of office space, laboratory facilities and services for the companies based at Erzelli. These works prepare the site on which the “Erzelli Tech Campus – Engineering, Science and Technology” Polytechnic School will be built.

2010
2013
Construction and opening of the public park

Construction and opening of the public green space: 30,000 square metres of green space in front of the technology infrastructure.

2019
2020
Installation of the Franklin supercomputer at Erzelli

The Italian Institute of Technology installs Franklin at Erzelli. When it becomes operational, it is capable of performing 4 quadrillion operations per second (4 petaflops), making it one of Europe’s largest supercomputers for research. In 2025, its computing capacity is increased by 50 per cent.

2020
Polytechnic School and associated infrastructure works

The University of Genoa commences construction of the Polytechnic School, starting with the laboratory buildings. At the same time, GHT carries out the site infrastructure works: roads, underground utilities, slope stabilisation, landscaping and the main distribution plaza.

2024
2025
New lecture theatres and departments

The University of Genoa awards the contract for the construction of the lecture theatres and department buildings, which will complete the new Polytechnic School campus.

2026
Opening of the Polytechnic School

The Polytechnic School is set to open its new campus at Erzelli: 6,000 students and researchers will join the science and technology park, creating a unique ecosystem that brings together technology companies, research institutes and the university.

2028
2029

POLYTECHNIC SCHOOL

Specialised laboratories: high-tech facilities for naval, aerospace and mechanical engineering.
