Minister Urso Visits Erzelli to See GENE.01, the Humanoid Robot Developed by Generative Bionics, in Action

On October 1, Adolfo Urso, Italy’s Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, visited Generative Bionics at the Erzelli Science and Technology Park, together with Liguria Region President Marco Bucci and Italian Institute of Technology President Gianmario Verona. The visit centered on a live demonstration of GENE.01, the company’s humanoid robot.

On Thursday, October 1, Adolfo Urso, Italy’s Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, visited Erzelli to meet Generative Bionics, the humanoid robotics company based at the park. He was accompanied by Marco Bucci, President of the Liguria Region, and Gianmario Verona, President of the Italian Institute of Technology. The company was presented by its CEO, Daniele Pucci.

The central part of the visit was a live demonstration of GENE.01, the humanoid platform developed in Genoa. The robot is equipped with sensors across its body and is designed to work safely alongside people, sharing the same spaces. Pucci recalled that the first prototype was developed in six months and that the company’s first industrial use cases are already being tested. The goal is to integrate the robots into companies’ production processes within a shorter timeframe.

For the minister, what he saw at Erzelli reflects something about Italy’s potential. “Italy has all the conditions to become one of the world’s leaders in advanced robotics and Physical Artificial Intelligence,” Urso said, describing Genoa’s experience as “a concrete example of the country’s potential in a sector destined to profoundly transform production and organizational processes.”

The visit came two days after the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Eni, announced on Wednesday, September 30, under which the two companies will assess where GENE.01 could be deployed at the energy group’s facilities. Earlier, in February, Generative Bionics had also signed an agreement with Fincantieri concerning welding lines at its shipyards. “Generative Bionics’ industrial project has all the requirements to play a leading role in a sector that is expected to experience exponential growth in the coming years,” Pucci told the minister.

Generative Bionics was born out of humanoid robotics research at the Italian Institute of Technology and is based at Erzelli, on Via Enrico Melen. The company began operations in December 2025 with a €70 million funding round involving companies and investment funds including CDP Venture Capital, AMD Ventures, and Eni Next. Ten months later, according to la Repubblica, the company had more than one hundred employees.
