On September 30, Eni signed a memorandum of understanding with Generative Bionics, the humanoid robotics company based at Erzelli. The two companies will explore where GENE.01 can operate across the energy group’s industrial facilities and how Eni can support the robot’s development through materials expertise, production sites and computing capabilities.
The Smart Materials research unit of the Italian Institute of Technology has developed a treatment that makes wood flexible long enough to be shaped into curved forms. The process uses a cellulose-derived solvent, requires little energy, and does not rely on petroleum-based adhesives, allowing the treated wood to remain biodegradable. The study was published in *Communications Materials*, a journal in the *Nature* portfolio.
Ericsson has launched a collective redundancy procedure in Genoa involving 131 employees. Giovanni Maria Paviera, CEO of Genova High Tech, calls the news what it is, while ruling out any impact on the development of the Science and Technology Park: construction of the New Polytechnic School is moving forward, the deadline for bids for the hospital has been extended to November 15, and a project financing proposal for the cable car is expected to be submitted to the Municipality by the end of the year.
Fifteen minutes of conversation, a connection from Brussels to the New York studio, and the GENE.01 robot entering the frame just one minute into the interview. On September 1, Daniele Pucci explained to theCUBE, SiliconANGLE's media platform, whose NYSE Wired program brings Silicon Valley and Wall Street into conversation, the approach Generative Bionics is taking to build humanoid robots. He also announced a date: the first quarter of 2027, when the first GENE.01 will be deployed at a Fincantieri shipyard.
At the San Francisco convention centre, among the humanoids and industrial robots of AMD Advancing AI 2026, there was also a piece of Genoa. Gene01, the robot developed by Generative Bionics (the start-up led by Daniele Pucci and born from IIT research), made its live debut in the United States: it walked among visitors, spoke and responded to touch. It also received a visit from Lisa Su, CEO of AMD.
10-seat cabins, a capacity of up to 4,500 passengers per hour in each direction, and a two-minute journey from the future Airport-Erzelli railway station to the hill. This is the solution Genova High Tech is exploring to improve access to the science and technology park. The company has taken responsibility for the design and has expressed its willingness to co-finance the project.
Every month, the figures, stories and developments from Italy’s largest science and technology park.
